As part of our National Age Without Apology Month this June, we’ve teamed up with expert facialist Nichola Joss for her exclusive expert tips on caring for skin with age, working with your skin rather than against it.
As you get older, you might find that your skincare needs to work harder for you, and your current products are no longer up to the job. That’s because skin goes through a lot of changes as we enter our 40s and move through each decade:
- Skin starts to lose elasticity and collagen production slows down and these are what keep your skin plump and taut
- Less hyaluronic acid is produced so skin is less hydrated
- Cell turnover slows down, which can cause dryness and dullness
- Perimenopause causes hormonal changes that can impact skin
These changes are completely normal and you don’t need to feel like you have to try to reverse them – skincare is about getting your best skin with age, not impossible skin.
We asked celebrity facialist Nichola Joss for her expert skincare advice, for you to be able to incorporate into your own skincare routine and lifestyle. As one of the beauty industry’s most revered skincare experts, Nichola has tended to A-list faces including Scarlett Johansson, Hilary Swank, Gisele Bundchen and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Nichola’s top 5 tips on how to look after midlife and mature skin:
- USE AGE-FOCUSED SKINCARE. “Make sure that your beauty routine includes age-focused skincare,” advises Nichola. “I love Willowberry’s approach of ‘skincare for grown-ups’, focused on gentle, nutrient-rich skincare to get nourished, healthy, glowing skin with age.”
- DON’T FORGET YOUR DIET. “Introduce skin-caring ingredients into your diet – these include fresh fruit and vegetables, unsaturated fats and supplements such as alkalising greens, prebiotics & probiotics and immune support.”
- ADOPT FACIAL MASSAGE. “Massage your face in the evening to remove tension and stress from the day, help tone facial muscles and boost circulation for a healthy glow.”
- EMBRACE YOUR MORNING CLEANSE. “Add the same massage technique to your morning cleanse, to maximise the benefits. The Willowberry Nutrient Boost Cleansing Balm is ideal for this, as it will aid the face massage and also nourish and hydrate while it cleanses.”
- USE TARGETED EYE CARE. Apply an eye cream to revive and brighten the eye area and reduce puffiness. The Willowberry Reviving Eye Cream contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate and revive, plus green tea, probiotics and caffeine to even skin tone and reduce puffiness.
Willowberry is nutritious natural skincare for grown-ups, for your best skin.
A favourite with top make-up artists, Willowberry's luxurious award-winning products protect skin’s natural barrier function, to nourish and revive grown-up skin without telling women to be 'anti-ageing'.
